    central locking issues 98 Disco

I've tried a search but can't seem to find anything relevant.

So I have a couple of issues and in need of some advice. Firstly I do not have a remote so obviously only lock and unlock with the key.

When unlocking the doors, most of the time they all unlock sometimes only the front drivers door. When they do all unlock it seems like the mechanism to lift the locking lugs (the plastiky bits that lift up and down above the trim) don't rise to what would be considered a normal height. This is more noticeable on the rear doors.

Secondly when driving the doors will spontaneously lock, i've noticed that this appears to happen more after hitting a decent bump in the road but have no idea if this is relevant to the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Mark

    You have 2 issues.

Firstly the drivers door actuator (that operates the actuators in other doors) sounds as though it is either on the way out if all the other doors are failing at the same time. However check plug connections first as they may have worked loose. You will have a 4 wire or 5 wire drivers door actuator depending if remote locking installed. Don't be tempted to replace with after-market as they drag much more power than OEM and will blow fuses. However after doing that you may still find some individual door actuators could be shot and require replacing.

Secondly the manual lock/unlock lugs are part of the latch mechanism and are held up by a small circular spring. These springs often break causing the lug to droop. Stealers charge a fortune for these baby springs. phillipstuart33 on ebay (search discovery doors) is a reputable seller, well priced and they arrive quickly from England. Note they are left and right handed with rear door being right from memory.

Buy some some plastic door panel clips (rear door different to side doors) from him at the same time as you will break a few pulling panels off to get to latch and actuators.
