Surely you could mail order a brand new one for less than that while the dollar is strong, have a look here

I had mine recored locally for $500. Being a transitional 3.9 with the old interior and v- belts meant it was very tricky to find someone who could tell me for sure they were going to fit the right one. There are 4 different part numbers used in a very close VIN range. Not cheap but it's as good as new. Cheaper than a stuffed engine and a ruined trip.

600 for a recore her but thats for the 4 core a 3 core which is standard is around 400

Is it a proper brass core or just cheap plastic crap?
