can anybody make sence of this

hi there , im having some dramas getting the correct style of axles for my discovery.. its a 92 disco 1 v8 auto with 10 splines... the axles i have been getting are rears and have a dome flange on the end (ref pics) they have no provisions for oil sealing as to run oil bearings. however the style i need are 10 spline with a flatter drive flange and provisions for oil sealing. also not the bolt holes are smaller in the dome shaped ones.. i have been given the wrong ones 2 times now and i guess ill have to use the old broken one as a sample , but to make things any easier what did these come out of as the landrover specialist is swearing black and blue that the ones i am describing do not belong in my car. I need the flatter one

From memory the early range rover.

I know that you can go one way (ie rangie to disco) but not the other and its to do with the size of the holes in the drive flange, one being metric the other imperial.

Whack a drill through it with the size to suit your hub bolts and you're ok.

Yeah i had a similar problem, the disco flat ones with the larger metric bolts (17mm head) are hard to come by, i got hold of some rangie rounded ones with the smaller imperial bolt's (9/16's)and had a go at drilling them out

Before you try drilling them buy a new drill bit and make sure you have a bench grinder close handy to sharpen the drill bit. they are bloody hard to drill out and it can be hard to find a drill press suitable to fit the length of the axle in the end we got one drilled out but didn't bother with the other side

P.s i now have hituff axles, they are the way to go

as 24 spline stuff is easy to come by, why not convert it? 2x 24 spline axles and 1x 24 spline center should do it.

    cheers phil
