That's exactly it. I need to get my Disco through a QLD roadworthy as cheaply as possible. Not easy when it needed suspension all round, has the usual oil leaks which I have to stop, needs a head gasket and dozens of other components changing.
It worked out cheaper to order it all from the UK, by quite some way (about $1500 different) even with the hefty delivery charges.
So I had to wait a week. Not a big issue.
And British steel is a formulation of Ferrous Cheese.
I can appreciate being on a budget, but there is a saying - Poor men buy cheap.
Hopefully those parts will be ok for you.
Interestingly, Terrafirma Springs and shocks would have set you back around $650.00 locally
Shipping of that lot from the UK at its current eBay price ~ $600.00 landed..
I'm poor so I have to buy cheap :D land rover saw to that:p...
I try to stay away from Cheap parts per say...although I look around this forum a lot and all I see is consume confidence brought around by clever marketing. there are a lot of 'cheap' goods out there that are just as good as the upper brands..however because they dont have the brand they are not widely excepted until the poor man starts using them and they get a good reputation.
There is something to be said for the poor man I feel...a risk taker but someone has got to do it otherwise we would only have ARB and bilstien in this life:D
I do agree with what your saying in regards to what he has bought and what he could of got for 50bux extra...however I guess it depends on what else he bought to fill in the gaps with the postage. the springs he has I have on my disco and they have been great...the shocks I believe are the ones britpart make I think I have no idea what they would of been like 'cheap' I imagine :p although Terrafirma is allmakes (or all brakes as we used to call them) and they didn't exactly have a good rep in the UK either...but at least they look like they are pulling there socks up
It seems that the attitude here is "if it's cheap then it's rubbish". I don't see how paying less for the same item is being cheap, just because it's come from elsewhere.
I don't agree with the "buy expensive - it must be good" theory I'm afraid.
I dont think thats what everyone is getting at, what you need to understand is with a much larger market to sell goods you will also get a lot more inferior goods being sold to that market. Just look at how many sellers there are of cheap retread mud tyres in the UK . Sure on smaller lighter items that arent urgent i buy from the UK especially whern its the same as the locallly sourced part only triple the price. Springs i wouldnt bother buying off shore, for less than $400 you can get a set of kings which are quality springs.
As long as you have done the research and you know what your buying then it can be alot cheaper then buying locally. Not to get off topic or anything:angel: but for example flexi flares.Much cheaper to get from England then here.Nearly $300 cheaper in some cases. But then again im a cheap skate.:D:D
Thanks guys.... I am new to the Disco and 4x4's so i have no idea on what is good "value" for money.
I have been buying a lot of stuff o/s lately for my motorbike and have saved at least $2k on the $2k worth of stuff over the last 3 months. The advantage is i have a greater understanding on what is good and what is not (been riding for 15 years) so i can shop fairly easily. Now with the disco i have know idea so i am trying to learn as much as i can from you guys :), and hopefull get as much value for my $ as possible.
I will be calling Suspension Stuff to have a chat as well just to learn as much as possible :D
