Looks like no one has really tried to answer your question.

Cam, not much options there, diesels have no valve overlap so there is never much of an advantage.

You still have a 2.5 diesel and with out boost its just a 2.5 diesel.

You can cut out the center muffler as already suggested. then up the fueling before boost. that’s about all with out spending big bucks.

Intercooler and bigger turbos as with hose condition is more top end stuff.

But a VNT turbo will bring in some boost lower down, 3" exorst.

Hydrogen, forget it, generation is to hard regardless of when the internet says. and LPG or Dgas type setup would work. but these setups are usually only working on boost how ever now days i have a NA diesel with LPG working all the time ( not on idle)

true but we are talking about the 200 and 300Tdi Vs the V8.

You could fit a myriad of aftermarket turbo diesels if you were so inclined, but my point is that a 2.5 4 banger diesel in lag will never be a power house, once the turbo comes on song, if you are in the soft stuff, then you just get wheel spin. For mine, I would rather pay the few bucks extra for petrol and spend the left over cash on goodies like lockers and accessories

just my opinion, each to their own

Mate, I don't have a barrow to push in that, I'm not pro V8s or anti V8s, I simply need a vehicle that can do about 5 different jobs as cheaply as possible. As I said, I once owned a V8 RR and loved it, but that was when I was earning 70,000 a year, now I'm a Pensioner!

I absolutely LOVE my Discovery! It is the best car I have ever had. It does everything that I ask of it but if I can tweak a bit here and there, it would simply make a good car a much much better car.

I have 2 bitches with my Discovery. Low down lack of grunt which can catch you out here and there. The auto transmission makes up for the lack of grunt in most cases.
But the Disco can achieve 26-27 mpg on a trip! The vehicle is a bit sluggish on hills but I can live with that at my age. The V8 isn't THAT powerful anyway, so I wouldn't be getting too cocky!

The only other bitch I have is the ABS brakes when driving on dirt. but that's another story.
I need a vehicle that can take me off road, be able to do long trips comfortably, tow a Camping Trailer, allow the Mrs to drive it to and from the shops and feel confident, and be reliable. So far, it crosses all those boxes.

    Really ?

I thought posts 11 and 16 had some pretty useful info, including a link to very detailed instructions on how to alter the boost compensator settings. ie. alter the pumps fuel delivery.

Buggered if I know what i missed ?

Hmm, I'm amazed that people think they can go fast in a 4WD.

If you really want speed, buy a Ducati........

Mark, I'm not sure what your point of all this diesel and specifically 2/300Tdi bashing is in this thread but I can't see one sentence that is helpful to the OP's original Q.
If you don't like diesels we get it, we got it on the second post.
Continued posting on the same theme starts to look like trolling......

FWIW you can easily increase the power and torque of a 300Tdi by at least 20-25% with large gains down low and buggerall change in fuel economy.

I have a 300tdi which I had the whole motor rebuilt then I took out the main muffler and replaced it with a straight through but silenced. Then I got it boosted to 17psi with standard cooler and turbo and hoses, then got the injector pump tweaked and up the fueling and I'm still getting around the 550ks per tank without trying. Mind you for me to get my truck the way it is I pretty much went through blood sweat and ALOT of tears to get where it is now. But I think that I have enough power nowfor me to do what I want to, guess you just have to set yourself a limit and work from there.

I suggest you take it slowly and build the truck up, get as much answers for your questions and experiment. At the end of the day as said before it's only a 2.5 diesel and there's only so much you can do to them but better to do it the right way the first time. Good luck with it and keep at it.
