    6x9's in rear passenger doors?

I've searched speaker threads but can't find anyone doing the above? It appears there should be enough room to fit some.

    Has anyone done it?

    Decent sound?

    Cheers.

Although of no help to you I do recall a thread where a interior trim was fabricated and 6x9's where plaecd where the alpine windows are. Looked very neat and keeps them out the way. Someone who recalls the thread may be able to dig it out.

Might be an alternative to mounting them in the doors. Rear leg space is already at a premium and from an experience of being in a mates 80series who mounted some on the rear doors, they made it quite uncomfortable to sit in the back.

    Food for thought.

In my last Disco I had 4 inch ones (same size as front speakers) in the rear doors.

The ones in the front doors have very little room behind them to fit decent magnets in there, but the ones I had in the back had magnets virtually the size of the speakers themselves.
So there is space to fit stronger units in there.

They were right down near the bottom at the front of the doors.

Not sure if there would be room for 6x9s, but maybe 6inch round splits would be a goer.

It is very easy to just pull the door lining off and have a look.

I just mounted some 6x9's in the rear pillars (replaced the standard 4" speakers).
They fit almost perfectly (obviously cutting of speaker hole required), but its a bit of stuffing around to modify the mounting bracket (i actually made new ones).

no need for new wiring either.

I tried placing 6x9s in the rear pillars even with spacers I couldn’t do it and even taking out the original bracket so I sufficed with some 6" in the rear pillars and large magnet speakers in the front doors thanks to a hammer and a coal chisel, what ever floats your boat I guess. The amp and sub will give me the depth i am lacking from my small speakers.
Sorry that was no help with your original question but might help some one else,

you can fit 5x7's in the rear pillars.

had to modify the standard bracket but it still uses most of it.
also shaved a bit off the back of the pillar trim, for clearance. left the standard 4" hole and grille in so it all looks standard

the sound is much better with the rear pillar speakers,,

Yes, put 6X9s into the rear doors of a 1990 RRC. Could only get them in with some spacers but seem to work well

Thanks for the replies so far. I have modded rear pillars for 6in splits and upgrade front door speakers. Problem i have is getting decent base in the setup, the pillars really need to be enclosed better for bass and 6" don't do the best job anyway.
I have installed a slimline sub from Jaycar under the front passenger seat but its not cutting the mustard clarity wise.
Im not after show winning sound just decent sound so my thoughts turned to 6x9's to supplement it all and provide a bit of backup bass.
Will pull a door trim off over weekend and see how I go whether it be doors to rear pillars.

    Cheers
