3 Discoverys = 3 similar but different ECUs


After testing everything as ok and putting it all back together again, my drivers window decided it didn't want to work. I emptied the glovebox again and after removing and refitting the plugs it all worked again ..... until I repacked the glovebox when it again wouldn't work.

I removed the ECU from the parts car and fitted it ... all good (so far)

Interesting to note that none of the ECUs from 3 cars were the same

I have two of the ECU's .... P/N AMR 1282. Seems someone was here before me and just shelled out for a new ECU without thorough testing and left it bouncing around where the anti-lock brake ECU would have been, had it been optioned. Bet they were buzzed when the intermittent open circuit that is in the small connector, (waiting for me to get off my r's) reared its ugly head.

You wouldnt believe it, I ran out of time and didnt get to pull the ecu out but just poking around down their seems to have fixed it. Four windows now go up and down on command.

Must have bumped it the right way.

Thanks to all for the previous posts and advice on how to fix rear window problem.I had the dry soldered joint issue and with the benefit and hard earned knowledge offered by others was able to fix the problem in less than an hour.
One thing i did find difficult was reinserting the card in the slots as mentioned previously.After trying unsuccessfully for 10 mins I rounded the back corners of the board just enough to remove the sharp edge and it slid straight in without jamming.This does not damage the tracks on the card and eliminated the need to try and force the card in at an angle.I am not sure how long the windows have been out of action as I have only recently bought the car but I also had to spray some silicone spray in the window channels to get them running up and down smoothly.Both sides now work perfectly and the kids are happy.

Another great service from this great forum.

Mine was indeed a 2 minute soldering fix plus about 15 minutes trying to get the plugs and surrounds off and on etc.

My Disco is a 4/95 and the circuit board was identical to that pictured in the linked fix instructions.

Now the children can play with the windows....

Thanks to all for this excellent thread. I knew it would have to be something like that. My daughter (see sig box) has been on my case since taking over the disco duck.

Just completed this repair job this morning. Hardest part was getting the 2 white plugs out of the circuit board. Very stubborn. Once that was done it was a 20 minute job.

First time the rear windows have worked for about 6 months!

Since it seemed to be the thing to do in some spare time I figured I might have a look at mine. Ditto to Geoff on getting the plugs out, especially the lower one.

Anyway I had a fiddle with the solder join in question, even though it looked alright (as do all the others). Unfortunately that didn't fix my problem, and it was wishful thinking that it would in hindsight.

I have just the drivers side rear window not working. It works fine from the centre console but not from the door switch, so I guessing that there's a switch behind the door panel to replace... is that right? Any hints would be appreciated.

It stopped working a few months ago when a 2 kids (not mine!) started competing with each other to get the window up verses down, one of them pressing the console switch and the other the door switch. Little buggers!! At least the window still works from the console hey.
