    Oil leaking from rubber hub cap on Disco.

    I noticed over the last 2 days Oil leaking from rubber hub cap on Disco.
    I replaced all the seals last year for the same reason.
    Seems the oil is coming from the axle tube.
    The swivel housing needed about 100 mm of oil to correct the level.
    What would cause this? over pressurization in the swivel housing causing it to blow out? The wheel bearings were covered in oil. There are no leaks outside the swivel housing
    Any ideas. no I don't want to convert to oil fed bearings either.

    sounds like your stub axle seal is leaking for one reason or another (as you know), so i would either replace the dust cap or just put abit of gasket goo on the rubber cap so it seals properly and see if that works, when you did the seals did you notice the surface where the stub axle seal runs to be grooved out from the seals wareing into the axle/cv shaft? if this is the case you may need to speedy sleeve it

    While your at it try checking your diff breathers and make sure they arn't blocked causing the diff to pressurise and breath through the seals.

    If you have oil leaking out of your the black rubber cap on your front hubs then you either have converted your setup to oil lubed wheel bearings or the stub axle seal is stuffed.

    If you wan the oil in your bearings then just take off the rubber cap, clean up the oil and put a smear of silastic in the groove for the cap before putting the cap back on.

    That's what I did and they haven't leaked in years.

    I also bought new dust caps but they were plastic not rubber so I never fitted them.
