    Help with Rim offset selection

    Hi all,

I've been researching this for a couple of days now and still stuck. I'm going to be getting a set of 265/75R16's and Rockcrawlers to suite (most likely the 16x8's):
    Pro Comp - Australia - Series 87

I've ruled -25mm offset out as being to much for the 32's (seem to be required for 33's) and am tossing up between the +6mm and -6mm offset. This would give 54mm and 78mm increase in track with the rims alone.

I've seen Telf RRC has 0mm offset (bang between what I'm looking at) and that seems to work pretty well. I'm not sure if I should be going more or less (24mm isn't much in the scheme of things I guess).

I have flexi flares to go on so not fussed about rubbing and I'm aware the max legal increase in track is 50mm. Also getting a fesh set of bearings and brakes prior to the new wheels so they should be up to it as well.

Anybody got any thoughts on which way to go? Of course the other option is the 16x7's with +12mm offset which would give an extra 42mm of track but I'm not sure if this would give me full lock back with the steering.

    Cheers
    Stuart

correct me if I am wrong (probably are) but stock rims are 0 offset arent they?

so if you went to a +6 rim that would narrow your track and a -6 rim would widen the track by just 12 mm so well within tolerance.

of course, if stock isnt zero then I am completely wrong and should just stay out of it......

if it was me, I would go the -6 rims

most LR wheels that fit Defenders, Dsico 1s and RRC are +33 off set. The face on the wheel center that mates up with the wheel hub is 33 mm towards the outside of the vehicle from the center of the wheel.

    Hi Stuart,

You've obviously seen my thread on this but thought I'd chip in again. My logic for the zero offset was based on the fact the 265's are 60mm wider than standard tyres so to keep the steering the same I needed to space out by half of that. I was also looking for an improved 'stance'.

I had to do a fair bit of guard trimming to stop any rubbing. The +2" lift probably helped under normal road use but a spring lift doesn't stop rubbing at full articulation. I've not extended bump stops but there doesn't seem to be any problems with that.

All this is of course based on my RRC, I'd expect the only difference will be for the guard cutting. I don't think the +6 offset will lose you anything in steering compared to the zero offset.

If you are nearby you are welcome to come and try mine on for size.

I might have to take you up on that offer when the flares are on as Im in Dianella so not too far away (payment via a six pack of course ). It goes into Lifestyle 4x4 in 2 weeks for new bearings and brakes all round so I'm hoping between now and then I can get started on the flexi flares.

Have you noticed any rubbing on the inner guards off-road? This is the main reason I've not gone for the 33's. I know Boxer on here has done it but I've not seen many other people successfully run that size with only guard trim and 2"" lift.

I took the front inner guards out when I done the trimming. Had to grind down a few long bolts too.

Only get some very minor rubbing at full articulation.

If you come round to try them, bring a decent jack if you have one.
