    300tdi injection pump removal

    Hello again....

I'm in the middle of decision making and hope for a little bit of help...

my car (94 300tdi disco) has been in the shed for nearly a month now (yep...) - first due to a noise which turned out to be a broken valve spring
so I took the head off and did what was necessary...

at the same time I decided to give it a bit of TLC (as you do with 450 k on it)...new injectors, glow plugs, few bits and pieces, gaskets etc
next on the list was the timing belt.
has been done 100 000k ago - with new pulleys etc (as I found out this morning)

now... I initially planned to go the last bit and take the rear timing cover off to replace front crank and cam seals....
.....BUT I am a little unsure as to whether it is an easy enough job to get the injection pump off and whether or not I can **** more up than do good with the new seals...

Oh, and on the cam sprocket are 3 marks (one original and two "home made"....) if I go ahead - can I use the original one if everything lines up nicely or what could those two other ones possibly mean...?

...at the moment I am tempted to just replace the belt, tensioner and pulley and not worry about the seals... but then again.... they would have been in there at least 100 000km as well

whats the general thoughts please... are these seals likely to hold another year or so... or should I just do it as I got this far...?

...I know its not much of a technical question... I more so need a bit of moral support I guess

so if anyone has some sort of advise... that would be great

    CHEERS!

The rear timing cover doesn't need to be removed to change the seals. To remove this cover you will need to remove the sump to remove the oil pump pick up. If the seals are leaking change them if they are not leaking just change the belt and tensioner/idler.
Don't use the home made marks ,use the original marks. The last belt was probably done by someone who knows nothing about LR. This is why they have marked it.
If you remove the injector pump don't undo the nut on the front sprocket, only undo the 3 bolts.
