Thread: V8 dipstick?

Which car and year??
Up to my 92 RRC AFAIR they are all flat, anyway a 81 and 77 certainly are.

Sorry I've asked so many stupid questions I assumed everyone knew it's a 95 Disco V8.

Dipstick out of a 96 V8 Disco is flat.

At the the moment the dipstick resembles a sabre with quite a heavy bow in two directions. I've gently bent it straight but by the time I had it in and out again it's bent again. The dipstick has a round section and not flat.

The dipstick handle also clashes with the throttle body pipe from the AFM.
The dipstick tube is clamped to the rocker cover with a bracket,I I assume the tube is in the right place.

Does this sound right for a V8? Surely not.
Is it possible I've got the wrong dipstick?
I've been thinking of ordering a new one but thought I was ask first.

My 98 V8 is exactly the same. So if it's not normal, then 2 of us have the same problem!

Flat flat, as if it's been cut from a piece of 1-2 mm plate or flattish?
Mine has sort of flat sides but I don't think it's spring steel because I can bend it quite easily.

Thanks, that makes me feel a bit better. This car is doing my head in, you wouldn't say I've tinkered on cars all my life.

I've just had an idea, my Falcon has a long flat dipstick. I'm going to try that on the Land Rover and see if it goes in and out any easier.

AFAIK the dipstick tube just wriggles gently out of the block when you undo the bracket to the rocker cover. Pull it out if you can and check for kinks in the tube.

I will check tomorrow.
