    Cool Diff Question's

    Hi all
    I have bought a Truetrac Diff Centre for my rear Diff. I intend to do the exchange myself but I hav'nt worked on a Diff in some time.

    Can anyone help me with a few questions?

    1 Can I use the same bearings that are already on the diff or should I get new ones?
    2 What is the best method of adjusting the Preload on the housing Bearings?
    3 Can someone tell me what the Torque Settings are for the Crown wheel Bolts and the 4 Bearing Housing Bolts?

    I know I sound like I don't know what I'm doing, but I do have a pretty good mechanical brain

    I just fitted front and rear True Tracs.

    For $35 each in in bearings its silly not to change them.

    I used a dial indicator to set backlash and away I went.

    Hey Thanks Rez!


    I have never used a Dial Indicator but seen someone use one many years ago.
    It measures backlash between the Crown Wheel and the Pinion doesn't it??
    Can you tell me what the Dial Indicator measurement should be??

    REZ can I ask if you have a part number for the bearings and a place where you got them from.

    Yes I have a detroit back and a tru trac front going into mine

    hhahhahahahah can tell the dollar is up can't yeah anyone buying a secondhand D1 in a few years time are going to think its a standard fitment!!
    Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    Just curious, what price are people getting detroit's and Tru Trac's landed for. This might be a good option for me getting one from the US. (new group buy)

    Backlash: .10-.17mm

    Bearings: Timken Set # 47 from my local BSC Bearings

    Price: All up landed and fitted with new oil and bearings I reckon it cost me just under $1300 which is alot better than the $2000 for diffs only here in Aust.

    Considered a Locker but given the car is mainly driven on road I wanted drivability. Two TrueTracs should go nicely together.

    Also just fitted AedoFab swaybar disconnects. Happy with them!
    Should be able to venture a bit further before getting stuck now

    Mine was $603 Australian Freight included.
    It took about 10 days from the day I ordered.

    Then $91 for gaskets and Carrier Bearings which I bought local.

    Thanks Rez for the settings.

    I DO have one other question. Are there torque settings on the Carrier bearings or do you do it by feel?
