    Bull Bar Question

    Hi there

I'm new around here. Have never had a 4wd before, no matter a Landy.

Question: I have a 95 Disco, V8i, and I would like to put a bullbar on the front. (They used to be called roo bars when I was a kid - what happened there?)

I haven't had much luck locating a second hand one, and was wondering if I could expand the search by including other models/makes.

For e.g. Would a 94 or 96 or 97 D1 bullbar fit? How about a D2? Or even other makes of cars like Tojos?

Is there a list around to which I could refer, or do I have to go measure each one to see?

    Any help appreciated?

Any D1 Bar should fit but be careful if you have air bags.

Have a look in the 'Markets' section (Main Index - AULRO Classifieds) and/or place an ad under Accessories Wanted.

If it a Non Airbag (SRS) model any D1 bar will fit. Ever seen Range Rover Clasic bars fitted, they just don't have the side wings. If it's an SRS model you will have to get an SRS Bar.

    SRS = Airbags.
it stands for supplementary restraint system or something similar.

Bulbars/roobars that are design to work with Airbags have a crumple zone built into the bulbar, and then the bars are thoroughly tested to ensure they do not affect the operation of the airbag.

You are at risk to void your insurance in a crash if you are caught using a non airbag compliant bulbar with a vehicle fitted with airbags (SRS).

IMO the risk is very minor as the insurance co would need to prove the non SRS compliant bullbar caused the accident. It is however illegal and could be reason for mr plod to put you off the road. You wont pass a road worthy inspection with a non srs bar on an srs equiped vehicle.

the interesting thing is though that air bags a suppossed to be replaced every 10 years, although this is rarely done due to the cost of replacements. AND when you look around a wrecking yard at smashed D1's, very few of them have had the airbags deployed (which is perhaps a symptom of the bags not being replaced). So in terms of occupant safety you are probably not reducing your safety by fitting the non compliant bar. BUT IT IS ILLEGAL.

Oh yeah any D1 and RRC bar will fit. Not sure if the front chassis is the same on the D2 to allow fitment of a D2 bar.
Triumph Rover Spares may have a second hand one they can ship at reasonable cost.

    Great info. Thanks.

The insurance thing won't matter, as the car only has other party insurance.

We don't have roadworthy inspections in WA, so that doesn't matter either.

Unfortunately still haven't managed to find a pre-loved one at this stage, but will keep looking.

    regards

Having used both, in my experience the ARB bar is much stronger than the TJM equivilant which has a tendency to bend with slight bumps. The ARB bar withstands a much harder bump.
