Why not turners? You could probably source a head locally at your own peril :P I have my old head sitting in the shed with the usual cracks between the glow plugs and the injector... I am a little bit far away to give it to you though..
after posting about the temp spike and other issues i have had lately in another thread, and in conjunction with fixing the injector pump which has a fairly big fuel leak from the under the top part of the pump, i finally decided to take the head off.
got it off this morning and had a quick look at it and saw a head gasket problem between No 2/3 and into a water jacket and head bolt hole.
i put a straight edge across the head at this point and found no sign of a warp and no sign of cracks, beauty i thought.
took the head to an engine reconditioners to double check and they measured along the head for warpage and found between No 2/3 a dip of 9thou and suggested skimming 10 thou offthat was until he bought out this neat little contraption that bounced a ball bearing on the head and found that the head is soft (75 average with 1 reading at 65
) the rest of the head was tested as excellent (110+).
apart from turners any other suggestions?![]()
and no i am not up to offers of matches and petrol as yet![]()

With the exchange rate so good at present, you should be able to get a good deal from the UK.Make sure the balance between the cost of the head and the freight cost between the various suppliers is comparable.
I have dealt with Turners, excellent advice and service and items received in less than a week.So recommended, even if they cost a little more.
Don't forget to get new head bolts and gasket at the same time you order.

under 1000 delivered for new head plus everything needed to make it happen. This was when the exchange rate was worse too.
placed an order with turners yesterday and got an email this morning tewlling me that the parts are on their way![]()

Have you guys researched elsewhere for 300tdi heads (eg ebay)?
Several seller have bare heads for 300 pounds, plus delivery of 125 pounds. head gaskets, bolts, other gaskets etc are about 100 pounds.....so all that delivered for about $850 AUD.
plus you get the insurance of buying on ebay/paypal.
Regards, Steve
I used turners for my rebuild, they where fantastic to deal with and parts i ordered from UK got to me quicker than stuff i ordered from eastern states..
