V8 Disco1 air filter box top

    Hello all.

Does anyone know what is meant to be connected to the nipple on the top half of the air filter box?
It looks to be for a vacuum hose but for what reason?

It points to the inner guard and is located on the RHS of the box as you're looking at the motor. I only noticed it about a month ago. It has been open to the elements all this time and being in the top half of the box it is open to the engine side of the filter. I have just put a bit of vacuum hose on it and put a screw in the end of the hose.

    Any ideas?

Yup. There's a matching nipple on top of the passenger side rocker cover on the relevant V8. A hose runs from one to the other.

Thanks will check it later. I know there is a pipe on the rocker cover that I thinks goes to a little valve or filter.

Just had a look and the pipe actually runs from the rocker cover and out a perfectly sized hole into the inner guard where it doesn't connect to anything.

What is it for and should I reconnect it?

Probably got put there by a blind mechanic. Those hoses develop cracks at the drop of a hat and would have fallen off years ago. Just get a bit of vac hose and put it back the the air cleaner. Beats me why it is there, seems a bit small to be useful but I always reconnect it when I am under a D1 bonnet. I think its an extra breather for fresh air to enter the engine. Blow through the valve and see if it is one-way into the engine.

Thanks I'll refit it. There is no valve. I would have confused it with the washer lines.

I must admit I've never seen a valve in that hose but I thought yours was special!

It's also connected now. I'll expect another 40kw at the wheels

For this bit of emissions design genius they put the airbox connection on the upstream side of the filter . There are probably more RV8's out there with them not connected than connected at the airbox end and as a consequence unknowingly putting unfiltered air through these engines.

??? Hose goes to lid of air filter, ie downstream side.
