Just fitted a Detroit to my D1 rear and rover tracks axles. Made by Eaton shipped from USA. Its great - no nasty bitumen behaviour. Planning trutrack in the front. Is this ok with standard axles/cv's does any one know?
I will be running standard axles in the front.....the axles aren't very strong but it depends on what your going to do with the car
One of the great advantages of putting Trutrac / LSD in the front (instead of a 100% on demand locker) is the less stress it places on front axles and CV's. You will find stock will be fine if they are in good nick and or your tyre size is not too big. I would upgrade if front drivetrain is not in good order as it is not a lot more $, noting the weak link after that will probably be stock C&P's (with new centres front and back).
thanks for that - I was hoping the fronts'd be OK unless I had big tyres fitted and more serious torque than a 300Tdi.
Look I've just put mine in but in an Auto I don't "think" the axels are going to be under enough pressure to break.
I maybe very wrong but I feel that there is enough give in the drive train, including the Truetrack and the Gearbox to warrant upgrading the axles.
I might be very wrong but I have driven Manuals that seem to have much more pressure on axles than the Auto ever will.
no just carrier bearings:(
