Steel water pipe, anyone replaced one?

I have a small coolant leak on the lower radiator hose that I just can't fix.

On the lower radiator hose there is a smaller hose that connects to a steel pipe that runs up the front of the engine behind the alternator and along the left rocker cover. It's dribbling on the this smaller hose. I have already replaced the radiator hose so I am thinking of replacing the steel pipe.

Has anyone replaced this pipe? Can it be done without stripping the front of the engine? The lower bracket bolts to the timing cover and it looks like there is enough space to get it out.

I was considering chucking a bottle of Bars Leaks in but the cooling system is nice and clean with no sediment so I really don't want to chuck this gunk in.

    Any other suggestions?

    It's a 96 Disco V8.

I am sure I had this pipe off the last D1 I did a head gasket on. No reason I can think of why you can't do it.

Thought the smaller hose on the bottom hose went up to the bottom of the reservoir bottle?
Must be different between D1 and RRC although I can't see why...
Usually the metal lines are the two heater lines along the top of the RH rocker cover. The inlet comes off the intake manifold and the return goes to the waterpump....

Yes you can take the pipe out theres a allen key headed bolt that holds it in place very fiddily up under the alternator or ac pump area.I think i had to remove the ac pump bracket to get the little sucker out. hope this helps

I thought I should report back.

The steel pipe won't come out with the alternator and aircon compressor in place. Believe me I tried. It did however give me a good oppurtunity to have a closer look at the offending pipe and decided it wasn't in as bad a condition as I thought and maybe it wasn't the cause of the leak after all.

I had already fitted a genuine LR hose no more than two months ago.
I was warned off fiting a non-genuine hose.

Anyway as a last resort thought I would try replacing the hose again this time with a non-genuine hose from the UK.

Problem solved. When I fitted the second hose I noticed it went on noticeably tighter on all the ends. Even comparing the two hoses the non-genuine one had a thicker wall and the join with the smaller pipe also didn't look as if a 5 year old had done it.

Anyway, I thought I would let everyone know the conclusion of the matter.
