Soooo, one would assume[knowing what assume does!]that a slipped liner wouldn't cause engine miss under load then that could be maybe ruled out? As I said there was an instantaneous 'clunk' that I thought was a flat tyre the moment the missing started, though the engine had been a bit rattly on the drivers side bank for a while.
The mechanic took the valve covers off, and said the rockers were worn but still servicable. $900 to R & R with new ones.
He is removing the heads today if the comp test shows an anomaly and if there is any sort of liner issue, or a holed/cracked piston:othat will be obvious even to me and my crap eyesight! I'll enter here what the final diagnosis is.
Off to work to make some money for the money pit, I mean Disco:p
