    G'day All,
Well, back from 850km overnight run with freeways, back roads, state forests[Barrington]and Sydney traffic. Engine didn't miss a beat, use any oil or water, blow any smoke or fail to start at any time
Used 140 litres of 95 RON fuel, for an average of 16.6 litres per 100km. Not too shabby I'd say, considering it was using near on 22 litres per 100km before the cam & lifters were done. Looking forward to running it on gas.........$215 in fuel

There is still a noise on startup, somewhere on the drivers' side of the engine in the top end. I can hear another noise under load only that sounds to me like an exhaust manifold gasket, quite possible as the heads have not been touched at this stage. It's just annoying when going up the gears, but can hardly be heard from the passengers seat! I think that the apparent exhaust manifold noise was there when I first bought the Disco, but having a fair idea of what it was didn't worry about it.

The only issue I can see is that the engine wants to idle at 1500 rpm while coasting to a stop, then only slows to 1000 rpm at a standstill sometimes, before settling to about 800rpm occasionally. It didn't do that before the cam and lifters were done.

I'll speak to the mechanic during the week and see what he says, and post here if anything else becomes obvious as far as this mystery noise is. Thanks for the input so far! Much appreciated to be sure.

    Will.

    Thanks Pedro,
I read an article somewhere that said that same thing It said the engine would still run but badly.................I'll have to rely on the mechanic to do the right thing as I'm not able to work on it myself, unless it's really easy stuff with no lifting or bending

    cheers Will.
