I always enjoy looking at a well heeled modified Disco 1.
If you have an understanding wife, and a credit card to burn a hole in, the D1 can certainly look and perform really well.
I have lost count on how many mods l have done on my D1, but everytime l go on a trip and hit the tuff tracks etc etc, man the car just performs very well.
I have found that if you wish to get serious with the whole offroading thingy, well a twin locked Disco with a good suspension lift, and HD axles will work wonders.
How far do you go???
What is a good mix, without busting the bank balance?
Cheers Dave

Hey Dave,
The best thing about owning a D1 with all the gear for bush bashing is at the end of the day if you crunch it or break it then it won't cost arms and legs to repair.
Plus who cares if you get a few dents in it...![]()
For most people the same can't be said for seriously off roading a D3/4. If you wreck something on one of those then it starts to hurt the hip pocket real quick.
cheers,
Terry
When the cost of the mods gets close or overtakes the value of the vehicle then its time to stop, you really dont need to go too wild to get a D1 capable - once you get to the stage that you need 35" muds then you should just buy a tractor.

the next mod will be Ashcroft 4.11 CW&P, axles and CV's
then I might just throw a county or early 110 cab on it to lose weight and I want a ute - but this is way down the track
Rovertrak HD CV's & Axles are $840.00 landed at the moment.
Ashcrofts are just over $1100.00.
Rovertraks have an excellent warranty also.
I just purchased my a couple of weeks ago.
Keith is great to deal with also.

Bill at Great Basin Rover, Utah US supplies a great HD CW&P set.

I like the method of no mod is too much. If its what you like doing it dont matter how much you spend as long as you get to enjoy it and you dont hurt anyone while doing it. Its great to earn and save cash but you cant take it with you so spend it and have no regrets. I'm new to 4x4 but i have the bug bad. I quit smoking and the cash i used to spend on cigs i now spend on my disco, when will i stop??? maybe when the wife says enough but that could mean a new project :-)
Loanrangie. If i was to stop when the mods equalled the resale of my disco then i would have stopped already.. I dont modify it to make a better resale i modify to enjoy and get to locations i never dreamt i ever would, If its expensive then so be it. Yes i could have left it almost standard but then I have a ball recovering mates in their patrols and jeeps and driving around them like an indian possee while they are stuck in the mud hole :-) Note to self keep camera in disco for next time.
Easy, you are never going to get your money back,
but you will certainly get your moneys worth of fun and adrenalin![]()
