Purchasing Series 1 Disco V8 Auto

    Hi

Just joined the site. I am seeking to purchase a series 1 Disco, V8, auto trans, with low ks of course! And in good nick.

I'd value any advice on (a) what to look for in terms of possible probs and (b) unless recently serviced, what to service in particular before tripping up country.

This will be our third series 1 Disco, over the past 12 years, but on this occasion, will not be our main vehicle.

    Thanks heaps

    Regards

    Ray

I think the running gear is pretty similar to the V8 Classic Rangie - if so I'd suggest paying particular attention to the cooling system ie cooling fan viscous hub, the black plastic coolant reservoir and the radiator. I'm not much of a fan of flushing radiators and firmly believe that it is far better to have it pulled and rodded. And while it's out perhaps replace the coolant hoses. As you are probably aware over heating is maybe the biggest killer of Landy engines.

Replace the fuel filter [if fitted] and do a tranny service - sometimes these get skipped by non sympathetic owners as do diff oils [these can all too easily be overlooked even by diligent owners but also by non-diligant mechanics].

Apart from these oddities then do a major service and check of everything - that way you start from a level and known playing field.

Enjoy your new ride when you get it.
