No Clutch
Now you will all say "Not another clutch thread" but I did the search.
I have just bought this 200tdi Disco, 1992 mod.
The PO said he had renewed the plate.
It drove home OK but only released and engaged at the end of travel.
Now wont release or engage at all.
Bled system and no leaks.
Pulled slave off and it had no spring, so sourced a spring and refitted still no go.
Removed again and put push rod in housing engaging socket in lever. The end of rod sticks out about 8mm from housing.
Put rod in slave and the piston is where the rod would be at 8mm from housing.
This only leaves about 20mm untill the piston gets to the end of the cylinder so apparently not enough to disengage the clutch.
As I see it a worn clutch lets the lever come back more so more rod would stick out and the piston would be further in the cylinder.
I dont have this . Could the PO have fitted a plate that is too thick so the lever is too far in.
My next step is make a longer rod to test it.
Anyone have any other ideas please?

OK I may have sorted the problem this PM.
Not only was the spring missing from the slave but a plastic clip was missing from the lever. This is supposed to hold the pushrod in place according the book.
Thinking about it I wondered if the lack of spring pressure allowed the push rod to drop from the socket on the lever and pushing somewhere else which was not working properly.
I cleaned the socket and rod with brakecleaner and put on a bloody big dob of Sikaflex 227 I had. Carefully inserted the rod through the slave hole to ensure it was in the socket aided by a mirror.
Supported the rod with a rag central in the hole untill Sikaflex had hardened enough to hold it then replaced the slave.
Bled the system and checked pedal pressure. Came hard about half way down. Felt good. Waiting till tomorrow for a test drive.
