Hello can anyone please help me ?
I have a 1996 discovery v8 that is not well, The disco is running ruff (it sounds like its running on 7 cylinders) and rich, it wont idol and will sometime ramdomly cough as its driving along.
Does anyone have any idea why?
The odomitor says 276 222 km.
I don't have a michanic but my Dad use to teach me.
I have only had the Disco from December and it was serviced then with a new oil filter and oil, the vacume advance was fixed and a new fuel filter.
When i got the Disco it hadn't been running for a couple of years.
Mmmmm ... So many directions to chose from ... Then lets start with the simple things first
Check the rubber intake hose from the MAF to the throttle body for splits
Check for split vacuum hoses in general
Change the spark plugs ... use NGK
In total darkness (night time) ... Lift the bonnet / Start the motor up and look at the spark plug leads for arking ... If you see blue electrical arking, then change the leads
Unplug the electrical connection to the MAF / start it up and see if it changes things
Start there and see how it progresses
Under the wheel arch at the drivers side rear wheel is a fuel filter ...That's what you changed?
Do you have a compression gauge?
Cheers
Mike
Hi Thomas,
Not on gas is it?
Hello Nomad9, no the Disco isn't on Gas as yet but it will be, and i've been told i'll need to have lower tempreture spark plugs for it.
Hi Thomas,
My 1986 Rangie was on gas I've just ripped it out after toasting my second MAF, they are getting progressively hard to find and new cost in excess of $800, something to be aware of. If the gas backfires it can damage the MAF to a point that it won't work. The reason I asked about gas was because a lot of the symptoms you describe turned out to be my MAF damaged.
