    locking and unlocking

how close do you need to be to lock and unlock with the Fob?

i have changed battery but it seems that we have to be with in a meter and then some times it takes 3-7 pushes to make it work.

Now try it again, but this time with the fob against your head. You can easily double your range.
    Strange but true.

yes that may be the case with most normaly brained peaple, but my supperiour inteligence has equped me with a brain that demonstrates a much more active electrical activivity. this nullifys any benefits that any smaller brained person my have with pointing a key fob to there head. in addition my cranial cavity just hasint got the vacant space that the signal emitted from a key fob can bounce around in and amplify.

    Mine is the same.

I read somewhere (possibly in the handbook) that to use it from too far away can mess up the alarm ECU as the fob and the ECU have rolling-codes i.e. every time the fob is used and recognised by the ECU both of them change to a new security code. If the fob is pressed from too far away too often, the rolling-code of the fob advances too much and the ECU doesn't recognise the signal.

No idea if this is correct or not but it seems plausible,

    Cheers Charlie

This is going to sound a little weird... I remembered hearing something Dr Karl said on triple j a while ago. I was a sceptic until I tried it... If you touch your fob to your head you can increase the range - apparently you act as an antenna or something. I got a range of about 20m by touching it to my chin (I also lost my dignity). I haven't tried my arm or anything a little more subtle.

Skull works best, very dense bone. Strange but true, pressing the button whilst in close proximity of bone, or other dense material will help extend the range. Alleged pushed against a titanium hip prosthesis is even better! With my subaru, which works from a good 20-30m anyway can push up to about 50m again skull.

Top Gear showed it quickly on one their episodes a couple of years ago. Admittedly, it was a new Mercedes, but the difference in range was pretty amazing. Probably close to 100 metres.

I have tried it, on my Disco. You virtualy have to be touching the car normally, but through my skull, the range is about 20 metres.
