Well after much research and confusion I have finally found some new boots for the Disco
I was after an aggressive AT tyre like the Wrangler Duratrac but the price was getting up there a bit for a set of 5. Looked at Maxxis, Bridgestones, Goodyear, Khumo and Pirelli and they all had the good and bad points. Some were good on price but lacked a little in the tread department. Others poor on wear and tear. Review after review I read till my eyes were hanging out
And then along came the Cooper ST Maxx. Only a newish tyre to the market but seemed to tick most of the boxes. Some good reviews from overseas websites. Listed as 50% Road/Sand and 50% Dirt/Mud - looking good as this is what I was after. Now you can't believe everything on the brands website but they seem to have put a lot into fixing what was wrong with the ST-C.
And then it came to the all important price.
Quoted $300 a corner from Tyrepower which was cheaper then the Duratrac but which chewed up all my current funds. A quick call to Tempe Tyres and was quoted at $250 a corner at 225/75/R16 - SOLDwill be fitted either Monday or Tuesday next week. I'll post some pics when they are on.
BTW for those in Sydney Tempe Tyres had some great prices on other models brands as well. Well worth a look for those is need of new boots

Yep that's them
I like the look and the 50/50 split in what they are designed to be used for plus the price I thought they were well worth a go despite some peoples adverse opinion to Coopers over the years
I hadn't heard of that one
but I took as much info as I could and tried to make the best informed decision as I could. If it all goes pear shaped then I have a great knowledge bank for the next set and good information for the next person.
As these tyres are very new to the market it will be very interesting to see if they live up to the hype of the promotion or if they fail miserably as some people believe they will - only time will tell
Ask the dealer you bought the tyres from about the warranty, you should be OK if you don't go outside Sydney, Regards Frank.
Well I got the new rubber fitted today and although it is very very early days I am rather impressed.
Very quite on the road and so far great handling. No noise...well at least nothing that is louder then the rumble from the 300tdi.
As far as looks go the knobbly bits on the sides are a lot stronger then they look and should do well biting into the sides of ruts etc. Tread is solid with large open lugs on the sides so should do well clearing mud and hanging onto rocks in the snow.
will keep the thread updated as they wear and are used in different settings

never happened without pics![]()
Here are some pics of the new tyres
I think they fill the arches well, look good so now lets see if Cooper have fixed some of the reported problems of the past.
