ok being such a nice day and having time i went down and brought a new big n fancy multimeter, i checked the volt's at the supply cable which were 12.44 and with the key turned 11.65 which is all good so i put the multimeter on the output side of the solenoid and i have a lousy 1 volt. so i pulled the starter motor out and took the solenoid off but it seems to be a sealed unit, i tried to clean it through the screw hole's and lube it then put it back on and test it.
i hooked up the jumper leads to input of the solenoid the earthed it then i triggered it with a small wire off the jumper leads to the small terminal and the gear throw's out (which is the click i have been hearing and the click when i release the key is the gear returning) and the motor turn's very slow which i could stop with my hand being it's only getting 1 volt. the motor runs fine i put the jumper leads straight to the output terminal of the solenoid (the one that goes straight to the motor), so the question that remains can i replace the solenoid if so what one do i need/ should get and where is the best place to get one or will it be easier to replace the starter as i was offered a recondition one for $100
