i have flipped disco rims wouldn't have thought of them as much of a problem,, as they are still a 16x7 rim still run the same tyre as before they were flipped, they now have -25 offset which is no different to my 16x8 sunnys,,i would of thought as long as wheel and tyre don't sit outside of the guard its OK or covered by flares ??? is it because the rim has been engineered

you can fall foul in 3 areas.

    1. remade rims... They are no longer OEM and are no longer covered by the design spec of the rim. Effectively to be used they now require an engineers cert.

    2. incorrect offset if you change the wheel track then its illegal (outside of the prescribe limit) (again, you can get it engineered for legality)

    3. If you fit D1 rims to a deefer you have some scope to play with but then even if they dont get you for the first point technically the rim is not up the the full GVM of a deefer. (I havent heard of anyone whose gotten away with this yet BUT you could apply to have the GVM and GCM of the vehicle lowered to suit the rims its something like 300kg difference on the gvm.)

Nobody also never said they werent.

you would be surprised at the number of places that arent "roads" but still require full compliance to the ADR's

I'm all for this kind of stuff for play toys, comp rigs, hell even daily drivers providing its all certed and legal.

as much as I love a good "Told ya so..." it gets kind of hollow when the told you so follows you loosing your vehicle, license then job as you cant get around because of some snivelling little vogon who knows the rules as well and sneaks you out of your premiums or writes you a hefty fundraiser.

You are also assuming that disco rims aren't rated to at least 800kgs a corner.

Which would be more then enough for the Gvm on a 110.... Not a 130 but. Also, Gvm is governed by other things like braking capacity and axle strength..

i guess the same applies to doing 105klm/h in a 100klm/h zone, everyone does it and you might get away with it, but it is breaking the law and if you are the unlucky one to get targeted by a pedantic policeman, well too bad.
each to his own i guess, the rules are there for a reason, some i don't agree with but easier to abide by the rules now than try and argue them after the fact if you are involved in an incident.
guess i am just lazy and getting old.
interesting thing is if you travel interstate, which laws apply ? can you tell me that ?
I always thought the VSI's were Australia wide.
    It's the interpretation that varies.

as far as i know VSI's are aust wide, problem is tranpsort depts aren;t
we have QLD Transport NSW main Roads Vic Roads WA roads etc. they seems to follow there own guidelines.
just look at vehicle rego for instance. i bought a trailer in SA that had never been out of rego since the day it was first regoed and in good nick.
tried to rego in NSW and had to go through the hoops as if it was a brand new trailer, including getting a VIN stamped onto it. didn;t have one cos it was rather old. all fixed, but cost me a decent amount that i don;t think was necessary.
on the other hand, in WA i bought a D2 and transferred rego into my name, didnt need a RWC or blue slip and didn't even need a WA licence,
    my licence is in NSW
my main driver is regoed in QLD
my camper is regoed in NSW
my second car is regoed in WA
cos its too much drama to get them all in one state.
