    Unhappy TDi Noise.

I am new to Discoverys and have recently acquired a 1998 TDi. It has travelled a mere 158000Ks. But, it is noisey.. Has anyone tried to quieten one down using " sound deadening" gear. Right now I just can't imagine doing a long trip in it.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

a cheaper option would be to take a ride in a zuzu powered county, then jump back in your quiet plush just like a bentley disco!

Seriously though, check under the floor carpet. There should be about 30mm of dense rubber material. It absorbs water and many disco owners ripit out to deal with rusted floor plans. Your low kay disco may have had this done hence the noise? They are geneally pretty quiet fourby?

Well said! The NVH levels in our 300Tdi disco are heaps lower than in the 110! (however that is also commensurate with the torque!).

Further to what Steve mentioned, does your still have the acoustic cover over the top of the engine ?

Even on a Defender it makes a difference in engine noise in the cabin.

I used to reckon that but I noticed mine seemed a bit more knockity and remembered I'd removed the cover the week before.

Actually, I had the windscreen vents open at the time too
