    245/75R16 with no lift

    Hi, just bought a '95 D1 V8 to replace my '97 Prado.
I have 245/75R16 Bighorns on the Prado that i need to swap over to the Disco before i sell the Prado. Will the fit without a lift (may have a small lift in rear as it has heavy duty springs)? I just need it like this for a month while i sort out a 2" lift and i wont take it off road until the lift is in.
    Any help would be great.

AFAIK, just a "camel trim" on the rear guards, and adjust the steering stops a bit.
You may need to trim the flange off the rear guards from 12 oclock to the front to be safe if you are going to be heavily loaded and on rough roads.

I had 245/75/16 Michelin road tyres on mine when I bought it and thought they were just the standard size. It never scraped anywhere. I'd just fit em and see how they go. if your not going to go off road until you lift it then you shouldn't have much to worry about

    Too big?

Hi, well I've got 245/75/16 BF Goodrich Long Trails already fitted on my 97 D1. I wondered about them too when I bought it, but they seem OK and no mods have been made to the bodywork. The lockstops have been adjusted and not quite enough on the nearside, because there is a (light) recent rub mark on the radius arm. I'd say fit them and see.

    Cheers

Running 245/70/16 on my disco with no rubbing. Have been offroad without any rubbing as well. They are only 10mm wider than standard that came with alloy rims.

I had 265/70/16's from my old Rangie and fitted them to my 94 model with sagged standard suspension and had no rubbing with normal driving even on rough dirt roads.Same situation as you,I was waiting to fit a lift.

Standard size is 235/70R16, which is 29 inches diameter.

    The 245/75R16 is 30.5 inches.

245/75R16 is the largest size you can fit to a standard car, but depending on the actual tyre (brand, style, etc) they may still hit a little.

The point at which they will hit is on the rear of the rear wheel arch.
There is a folded in bit at the very bottom of the rear wheel arch, you may have to trim a little triangle section off from here to stop hitting.
You may get away with not doing this, but I would think the Bighorns will just touch here.

As mentioned the steering stops may need to be wound out a touch to stop the tyres rubbing on the trailing arms.

I have 245's on for daily use and havent touched the steering stops, you will be fine for now so just fit them and do the camel cut and lift when you can.

    Tyre Pressures

    Hi
Without wishing to hijack this post, can anyone suggest a suitable pressure for 245 / 75/ 16 BF Goodrich Long Trails fitted to an otherwise standard Discovery 1?

There are no pressures listed in the handbook for this size of tyre

    Cheers

I just run my 245s at the recommended pressures for my RRC or a bit over whcih are 28Psi front and 38PSI rear.
The load rating and air volume of 245s is quite a bit more than the OE tyres so theoretically they could be run at lower pressures , unless of course you overload the car. The fronts can stay low because the load on the front axle doesn't change much with load put behind the rear axle.

Touch wood . I have now driven some of the most severe roads in Australia and in over 20 years have never had a failed tyre , probably through luck but also through pressure management and keeping the speed down with low pressures and not overloading.
