Question Disco body trailer, has it ever been done

I've just bought a 95 TDi and know my green 3.5 isn't worth much so I'm thinking of making it in to a weather proof tool/camping trailer as I have three children I need all the space.
The hard part is I don't know if it possible, Id keep the fuel tank in for ballast and heavy tools at the rear then the lighter smaller things forward.
The disco I'm going to cut down is the green one in my pictures. Its a very nice body which I hope will look good.

I'm pretty sure it's been done before, I remember pictures on the forum. Or was it a RRC? Can't remember, a search should turn it up. Anyways it's probably gunna be heavy and you need to think about removing the diff too. You need a friendly trailer engineer in your area to advise or you probably won't get it registered.

    Thank you, it looks great.
I am thinking of going longer with chassis bent as the drawer bar then thinking about going to a hot rod builder/panel beater to bend the guards etc.
I'm watching for balance and weight now. It's just a project to keep my remaining sanity at bay 
I wasn't going to, I will get it looked at when it's stripped down.

Havent seen a Disco version but sounds like it could be interesting..

Theres a Patrol version part completed being sold on eBay at the moment and have seen a few others from Hilux etc...

So it can be done... How well is up to the builder I guess!

There was a great post here a while back on how to calculate drawbar length and axle position for a well balanced trailer.

Must be a lot of weight in it by the way that Rangie is sagging in the rear..
I was going to do one myself but the weight is what stopped me. Its easy enough to put air bags in to aid the suspension but think of how the rest of the drive train is going to handle it. Is it going to be useable in a touring scenario offroad??.
Good luck with it if you do go ahead i would love to see the finished product up close and ponder what could have been for me.

He could probably hook another trailer onto the rear of the disco trailer and have a sweet LR road train going!!

Wouldnt that be a promotional beast to make heads turn, but i bet it would be a nasty thing to reverse park lol
