I'm thinking of painting the whole bonnet black, not just the raised centre section. The rest is Rioja Red.

Matt will go white over time...
    Satin is the better choice...

I'm going to have to look at this. I'd not polished the Disco for about 18 months, and within a week of me doing so the clear coat started to let go just on the bonnet.

I'd thought about vinyl, but it's the whole bonnet that has suffered, not just the hump. I guess rattle can it is!

I'm also going to be giving my bonnet a good respray in black to. Standard paint just can't hack the aussie sun, a good polish makes it look a bit better but soon fades. I was thinking of cutting a bonnet scoop into the bonnet while i'm going. Perhaps a GU Patrol scoop?
has anyone done something similiar or heard of any problems with this?
Only problem I can think of is when crossing through deep water, i might get a sudden rush of water over the motor?

    Cheers

The hood on my brothers Series 2 was almost see through, so we gave it the tent sealing treatment. No more leaks. But its still good to drive with the canvas folded away.

Er , wrong hood, they are talking about bonnet = hood, not canvas hoods.

    You mean..... Like this?

    Black Semi-Gloss Paint, GU Scoop...

Now problems with deep water crossings at all.... After all, the sump and associated parts get wet anyhow.

When i bought my Discovery 5 years ago it already had a black vinyl on it... this has no signs of bubbling or fading... but i am un-aware how much older then the 5 years it is.
