    Additional fuel tank and Spare wheel

    I am well into modifing my Disco for touring.

    The question I have is what is the largest fuel tank I can go for on a 1994 200 TDi, LAndrover discovery and is it better to replace the old tank with a long range tank or get an additional tank?

    The other thing that I am looking at doing is, putting another spare wheel on the bonnet, like they used to do with the of Defenders, is it legal??? Other than adding support to the bonnet is there any other issues???

    If I went ahead with putting the another spare on the bonnet, I would also look at building some decent spots into the front of the bonnet with vents to allow cool air to get into the engine bay and I have already lifted the rear of the bonnet to help with air flow.

    Look for some sill tanks, was some on eBay (i think) recently for $500. They hold 45lt ea,so an extra 90lt. Les Richmond also sell them $1500ish. They seem like the best value way to increase range and it puts the weight between the axles. There are various replacement long range tanks as well so you can carry over 230lt

    I believe the biggest replacement main tank is 135lt (the standard is 70lt) also you can put a 45lt sill tank either side under the floor making a total of 225 lt.

    dunno about the bonnet question.

    I'm pretty sure the standard tank is 89 litres. Just looked it up in the owners manual.

    Even if the wheel on the bonnet is legal it woudl really stuff the vision. You arenly talking about skinny tires like they used to put on the bonnets.

    Wheel on the bonnet is not a good idea as it will obscure vision and the bottom will deform easily, a half roof rack for a 2nd spare and tool/recovery box would be better i think or even a twin wheel carrier.
