Thanks guys. Going to go the second hand route. Found a decent pair for the same price as the rebuild kit is for one side, so due to ease and speed well take this option for now. Will still end up rebuilding the old ones probably just as spares.

Just curious, but why is it suggested here NOT to split the calipers, Regards Frank.
It's not just suggested here, it is firmly stated!
It is also stated in both the RAVE manual and the Haynes manual.
I believe the reason is that generally it is very very hard to get the two halves to seal up again after being split (perhaps due to the extreme heat on it during it's operating life causing it to warp?). So you usually find if you split the calliper it'll be a leaking unit from then on...
The genuine Land Rover W/shop manual says nothing about splitting the calipers but there is also nothing about not splitting the calipers is why I asked.
Graham Coopers sell a kit to fit non-vented calipers onto vented discs which requires the calipers to be split and spacers (and O rings) fitted. Has anyone used this kit and were there any leakage problems? Regards Frank.
Justin, thanks for that, I noticed the Cooper's kit included "O" rings, bloody expensive though at $380 last time I looked, Regards Frank.
The service kit I purchased from bmi included othe o-rings .but I didn't really needed them as the old ones were still in good condition.and would have sealed the 2 caliper halves
I don't have a genuine Land Rover workshop manual, only the RAVE CD and the Haynes manual. Here is a screen shot of the page in the RAVE CD (it states it in bolt on the top of the right side column):
