Twin 1 3/4 inch pipes, a h pipe as close to the size of the primaries on the headers you choose, 2 hooker aerochambers would be about as big as you would go on an engine with that sort of power.
For actual performance a single 2.5 is more than ample as well.
Just be sure to tell the exhaust place that the system may get really hot in low range work. I recently had one done and it expanded in length almost 20MM in low range work and started banging on the rear crossmember.
I would recommend my RRC system which is stock headers then a 55 series Flowmaster 1 in 1out offset at 2.5 inches , then a straight through offset oval at the back with an expansion chamber. It sounds like a small block chev at low revs but is quieter at higher revs with no drone. Too noisy with a hot dog at the back , but I am an old fart .
You are not going to gain any power with any exhaust on a D1 (except at very high revs) as by then they had muffler volumes etc pretty well sorted.

Hi Philip,
I am not after any increase in power just want to get it to sound right the exhaust on it is starting to show its age and wont be long before it has holes in it so I may as well do it now as I am doing all the suspension and drive train as well.

I cut off the mangled section of exhaust today so i could at least drive it to the car wash and blast off all the dry mud and OMG does it sound like a V8 now. I think with a smaller muffler it should give a sharp V8 sound. I'm thinking until after christmas so I dont spend every spare $ I have i might just get a new pipe fitted to the rear section in 2 inch pipe so I can use it in the new system when i get it done. Definately going to make it 2 seperate pipes in the end with matching mufflers and NO REAR hotdog or muffler, 2 pipes exiting side by side in the usual postion will look sensational
Tomorrow I am going to have a look under a D1 with a stuffed exhaust and see how much room there is for twin exhaust pipes. I think twin 1-3/4 or 2 inch is good, I have used both on P76's and they sound good with that.
Hi, My Back is stuffed at the moment so I haven't looked under mine, it will be good to see what you find. I would be interested to see if they could be run separate, one down either side. Do you think they would radiate too much heat (up into the cabin) being close together ie side by side?
