I'm thinking more like two oval mufflers vertically side by side. There shouldn't be much more heat from one big pipe instead of two. I will check tomorrow!

Ive done quite a bit with exhausts on V-Twin bikes over the last few years and dispite twin single pipes sounding sweet, they usually reduce power and torque. They also move the maximum torque futher up the rev range.

I'l be more inclined to go with a 4-2-1 free flowing system and let a little back pressure provide torque down low and better engine breaking off road.

    Just my 2c.

I was under mine tonite and there looks like plenty of room for me but i do have a 2" body lift as well. As for exit point i rekon you could fit 2 X 3" pipes out there if you so desired but who would.

Yep a single 2.5inch with a free flowing muffler like a hooker aero chamber would be more than adequate, I really think dual 2s is to big for such a gutless v8 but each to their own.

When i first got my licence all them years ago, Me and my best mate had a theory, "If you can't afford to make it go fast or it wont go fast make it sound like it does" And after i showed him my disco all modified he said 1 thing to me. IT DOESNT SOUND LIKE A V8, PUT A SYSTEM ON IT.

Yep. At the end of the day thats what its all about.

I'd just warn people that getting the "sound" will affect off road/slow speed performance (less engine braking and torque higher in the rev range).

But, hey, if we really wanted low down torque and engine braking we'd geta diesel. Hmmmm 6.5 V8 diesel anyone??

For the price I'd sooner go small block chev petrol and run it on straight gas. I'll keep mine rover for ease of repairs and not having to change everything else to cope with the chev diesels torque. The 3.9 has enough oomph to get into and out of trouble

Well I've just finished putting a single 200 x 100 x 450mm muffler under a D1. There's room (just) for two if you tilt the muffs to about 45 degrees. Or you could put two 150mm cylinders in there no worries. You would need to extend the heatshield a bit but that's not exactly hard, its a piece of flat tin.

As for twin systems robbing torque, I've not noticed that, and I've been towing with V8's for 33 years. The butt dyno says no.

In my early days I used about 20% avgas with the super petrol and lots of static advance. The bottom end torque increase was unbelievable...
