3.5 D1 - Last check before yanking the pump

    Hi Guys,

I have had a problem with a 92 D1 I got as a project. I knew going into it that the car had problems. To be honest, that was part of why I bought it. I want the experience of fixing, then doing up the vehicle.

Down to business. When I kick her over after she has sat for a while, it will turn over happily, catch, then immediately starve and die, subsequent attempts wont catch, just keeps whirring on the starter. If I leave it for a few hous, then try again, the cycle starts over. I have checked, and I cant hear the in tank pump working, yet there is current going to the pump, so it seems obvious to me I need a new pump. I just want to confirm it with the gurus on here before I start forking ut for a newie. Is there something else I should check first? If the pump is dead, where is it getting enough fuel to initially fire?

    1. Maybe it is starting on the petrol fumes from the charcoal canister, the valve on it could be faulty.

    2. Fumes pressure from the tank could also generate a small amount of fuel pressure. Try it with the fuel cap left loose.

    3. Check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail, you should have a schrader valve on it somewhere.

Thanks, given what I've seen the heat do to jerry cans up here, pressure from the tank wouldnt surprise me. I'll check for the pressure at the rail tomorrow. So it looks either way like there's a new pump on the horizon?
