    Blasted Distributor

    Hey all,

    After doing a trip to Rainbow beach and back in the old disco it, the car became hard to start and surging with power once running,

    Afterpulling the distributor apart i noticed that the Rotor Button had warn the plastic around the bottom and the springs holding the weights for mechanical advance had come loose and caused all kinds of issus in the distribitor housing. So i pulled it apart to re-attach the springs and now she will not start at all and the distributor seems to have given up the ghost, also the repco fule miser brand rotor buttons dont seem to fit the 3.9lt distributor shafts.

    Questions

    1.) Has anyone done the scoucher distributor swap or another to remove weights and springs? or any other conversion to electric

    2.) has anyone in brisbane got a spair distributor lying around they could visit with so i can at least drive the truck.

    3.) Is it just me or do the fule miser rotor buttons just no fit?

    I love the truck but these little issues are KILLING ME!

    Hi those dissies are easy to fix. You can fit a XF falcon rotor button, part number GB864. They look different but work the same. Look under my username, find all threads by bee utey, I have written up a bit on dissy repairs and upgrades. Must rush now, at a bbq. Cheers.

    I went through all these issues and ended up buying a Scorcher Distributor from Performance Ignitions in Melbourne. Good kit, manufactured by them using Bosch parts from Holden or Ford so easy to replace rotors etc. This includes the ignition module and they will set you up with the correct coil also. About $700 from memory.

    When did you chnage the rotor? The most likely cause of your problems is that you pulled too hard on the rotor and broke the plastic clip that holds the inner shaft down.
    There is a fix for this in Projects.
    Also do not use any of the cheap aftermarket rotors ( or caps). I always use OEM as this is a well known problem that causes no start because of current leakage through the plastic of the cheap rotor.. maybe the Bosch GB864 but I have had no experience with these.

    If you are talking about spending $700 to 1000 to fix this problem that can be fixed for free ( or professionally much less ) if the damage is not severe, I would go to a crankshaft sensor Kit available here.

    well i rebuilt the dizzy one last time and i think i have nailed it, i used the xf rotor button as advised with slightly modified weights and heavy springs and i think i have come up with a decent combination. running a little leaner to compensate and with ron98 fuel the truck pulls much harder and seems to have more usable power.

    only issue now is that im off for the next 6 months on deployment so i dont get to enjoy my new found fun ohh well it will still be their in june
