Thread: Cleaning out flooded interior

Unbolt the seats and remove everything, hose the carpet from the backside if the underlay isn't glued to it. Thus should hopefully push any silt out, hang over clothesline to do. Remove the seat from the base, the seat covers can be removed from the cushions. Throw in washing machine. Hose off the cushions. One thing I'd pay particular attention to is the metal bits for rusting, especially any that are embedded into the foam.

not as easy as one may think, the carpets and under carpet insulation wasn't designed to be removed, but you do need to remove it.

Once Ive got it all out, I'm wondering if its worth putting it back in... anyone run without carpet?

Was there a way around the mud hole, I really cant understand deliberately driving into mud holes. If you look at the damage done to the inside of the car, think about what it has done to the mechanicals.
Think of mud as "Grinding Paste", it's now in your uni-joints, suspension bushes, exposed oil seals. The spare parts sellers are smiling, if you want to have your vehicle last, avoid mud holes.
BTW if it's a disco I would be checking out the elctrics in the bottom of your doors as well, Regards Frank.

I know what your saying here Frank. Thats why i refuse to drive on sand/beaches. . 2 tracks - both full of water.I took the lesser of the 2 paths available here.

I've been around and repaired enough 4wd's to know I need to check/clean/regrease the mechanicals before taking her out again.

I had the same problem in my disco and got sick to death of always pulling the carpets and underlay out to dry and clean. i decided to bite the bullet and remove the lot. I bought a couple of metres of good quality rubber and lined the floor neatly with it. I'd never go back now i've done it! I made it so its dead easy to remove. Also good for rust prevention as wet mouldy underlay doesn't go well with metal!
As for noise, well i run 35's so its noisy anyway, and the difference between carpet and no carpet, is hardly noticable.
