    Clutch Woes

Well the Disco has been sitting in the shed for a couple of weeks now while I summon enough enthusiasm to attack it. I keep getting sidetracked by Jumbuck and Tristan as they are much more interesting.
The uni bolts had been tightened by a 300 pound gorilla and I had to cut the rears off as the openender couldnt cope. However the top bellhousing bolts were only finger tight. Got the thing apart and the expected sight was exposed.
Lot of rust in there and the Gorilla hadnt greased the spigot or splines.
Not looking forward to reassembly as those top bolts are a pain and I have dropped the rear as much as the top rad hose will allow.

Hi there, have you attacked the top bolts from inside the car?
I got to mine that way by taking out the centre console and using a 450mm extension on my ratchet. I didn't have to drop the rear too much.

That looked a big job taking out the whole console.. Seats and carpet and all. I have just taken off the little top plate the levers stick through. Its still sitting there. I have a new lever but keep finding more interesting things to do.

Wow! All I did was undo 6 x screws to remove the console and 2 for the aircon tubes. The hrdest part was only drilling out the rivets holding on the rubber boot. Access was pretty good from there.

Got around to replacing the lever with the hole punched through it and started to replace the gearbox when I thought I should check the spigot bush. Put my dummy shaft in through the clutch and could not feel a bush. Damn. Had to drop the box altogether and move it away and remove the pressure plate.
Saw something up in the hole and flicked out with a screwdriver.
What gorilla managed to get the box to bolt up with that in there.
The same gorilla that did up the drive shaft bolts.
I have a winch on my crane that is normally on the back of my 120. Dual use. It has a remote control that is handy when I am under the truck trying to line things up.

The easiest way I found for the top bellhousing bolts was 3 or 4 socket extensions, enough to bring you over and down the side of the gearbox from underneath.
