4.6 RR block better than Disco 3.9 block?

I have heard that the block fitted to all 3.9 V8 discos was a compromised design in terms of water galleries and block/ cylinder wall thickness and that either directly or indirectly is what causes the liners to slip?
I was also told that the blocks supplied for all 4.6 Range Rover V8's do not have this design/ manufacture problem.

    1. Is that right?
    2. Is it possible to fit a RR 4.6 to a D1?

    1: No
    2: Yes.

4.6 blocks suffered from liner slip as much, if not more than 3.9 blocks.
The best cure is fitting top hat liners.

I have a 3.5 I am rebuilding (slowly) with a stroker crank. It is only getting a minimal overbore to help prevent liner slip.

So a 4.6 out of a P38 HSE is just as liable to liner slip as any 3.9 litre Disco motor?

    2 questions then.

    1. The best outcome would be to either source a rebuilt 4.6 that has had new Top Hat Liners fitted or source a 4.6 at a good price that needs a rebuild and get it done with new Top Hat Liners.

    2. Any ideas on a rough cost of sourcing either and a cost for fitting of same?

4 weeks ago I swapped out a 3.9 in a customer's '94 RRC and relpaced it with a rebuilt 4.6 short motor with high comp pistons and LPG cam, the engine was supplied by Triumph Rover Spares in SA. This totally transformed the vehicle to the better. PM me if you want a few details or contact them direct.

4.6 failure rate is/was far higher than that for 3.9's.
