It just gives you options if MR aren't open.

Thanks for this. Needed a tensioner before a trip (the 5c piece was no longer enough to correct the angle) and my parts guy couldn't get one till next day - Burson's had the Dayco one for $117. Don't know why I waited so long to replace it at that price.

They even have chinese knockoffs for under $10 a piece if you buy minimum 100. I wonder how long these would last

I'm not sure whether it came from there, but I purchased a aftermarket tensioner from my local suppler, it lasted around two months, before it fell to bits. The supplier gave me another, I fitted it but it was useless, the movement was too notchy for it to spring back against the belt. The supplier ended up giving me a genuine replacement. All good now.

    Cheers, Mick.

Thanks for that and I thought that would be the case.
    What a waste of metal!
We are scooping it out of the ground at a record rate to supply China so they can make crap knock offs that end up back in the ground as landfill soon after

Wow $117! About 5 years ago I got a bearing from my local bearing man to replace my dead one. $17 delivered to my door, and that even gave me a spare to keep in my toolbox!

I was told that you couldn't change the bearing. Had to get a new tensioner. Definitely not the case.

For Mr D95 - the Dayco tensioner assembly is very worthwhile as you get a new spring and new rubber bush all ready to go and it cures the alignment problem and the other cause of the dreaded squeak. Roughly a ratio of 5:1, after replacing the bearing 5 times, treat yourself to a new tensioner assembly.

I reckon that if I had a reoccurring issue with mine I'd replace the lot. For me though, no squeaks or anything that would suggest any issues with the assembly.

Sure the pulley bearing is only about $10, which I had already replaced and for which I always keep a spare. I was talking about the whole tensioner assembly that Land Rover list for over $300. The Dayco ones are recognised as being of equivalent quality and are sold by most aftermarket Land Rover parts sellers, so with that price difference its quite good value. Tensioners do wear out, especially the internal rubber bushings, hence all the threads on the 5c piece cure, but eventually as was the case with mine, once you get metal to metal they wear fast and are noisy.

Just had a look, the original one which was worn out was Dayco too, same for the old one off a 3.9. Not sure if it was OE but it had lasted at least 100,000km. They are also made in Italy or USA, not China.

Hey, 5 years with the new bearing and still running as good as the day it was fitted. I reckon there's about 30 000 km in that. If I had any signs it was not right I'd have put a new one on too.
