i was driving the other day and my 96tdi just stopped in the middle of the road lol, when i got it home the motor turned ove but didnt fire.
so check all the fuel lines and found it wasnt getting up to the block, so i change the injecter pump turn it over to bleed but still no fuel,

you changed the injector pump or the lift pump?

check the sedimentor and the filter for blockages and blow the lines back while they are off.

Did you check that the IP solenoid was getting power with ignition on as Dave just mentioned???

If not there is your problem right there.

this happened to me the disco stopped the first journey in it to get a new battery just stopped and i pulled over to the side of the road. i knew i had been working near the rear of the pump and at the top of the oil filter so i hopped out, crossed my fingers and had a look and bingo the wire was off the solenoid, plug it back in and away we went with a great sigh of relief.
always try the easy stuff first!!
