Land Rover Servicing and Maintenance Ongoing

I've just gone through the same thing with tires. Local dealers just look at their listing for the D1 and tell you that 235 70 R16 is the right tire for you. They aren't a real common size. I got 4 new 245 70 R16s instead. The diameter is only very slightly larger, so your speedo will read a tiny bit low, but this is a very common size and will fit straight on without any chance of scrubbing on the guards. I think I read here that people have fitted up to 265 70 R16s without having to cut the guards.
I got Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires for $240 each, fitted and my old tires disposed of.

The other alternative with servicing, if your husband it somewhat familiar with the tools.... get hold of a Haynes manual, easily available online. This is not a shop manual, it is aimed at you and me, so you don't have to decipher shop techniques and tools, they explain what you need to know.

I have never worked as a mechanic, only used Haynes manuals to service my vehicles and I feel confident to do most jobs myself. Then you know a job has been done properly, you know good quality oil is being used, you don't have to take it anywhere for servicing and you know when your vehicle will be ready again!

Didn't Discos of this vintage come out with 205 x 16 as a factory fit tyre the same as the Rangie of that era? Have a look at the Discos tyre placard.

The 205 x 16 size is readily avalable in a number of quality brands for prices generally less than $200 fitted. Have a look at Toyo A/T tyres too - these along with Bridgestone Desert Dueller A/Ts I have found to be excellent tyres - they wear well, can't fault the grip on the wet or dry bitumen, do a pretty good job off road, are not overly aggressive and importantly - are not susceptible to getting punctures.

We sourced a battery from Super Cheap (in the end) ... had the RACQ out to our vehicle twice more since the last time I posted ... what an arrogant ****:mad: the dude was; the last time he came out for 'roadside service', my hubby did all the work! Anyway, told him in no uncertain terms that even with an added discount their batteries were still overpriced:twisted:! I paid $169 for a 620cca with a 3 year warranty at Super Cheap - RACQ were offering 600cca with 2 year warranty for $190!:(
