hi all just wondering how the vacuum pump get it oil to it, ive taken the pump off and check the injecteor and that is clean, ran car to see if oil was coming out but no good, does it need a certain rev to get the oil pumping???
thanks liam
i know the vacuum pump doesnt pump oil but the injector inside the bloke does
when you take the pump off the injector i ment to pump oil to the crack
Hi Dragon2000,
If the vacuum pump is leaking oil externally it is a throwaway item. Non original ones last a while, genuine last longer, your money your choice. Not sure how any klms your engine has done, mine started leaking at about 250 k, ish.
The oil jet you are talking about screws out of the block if you need to take it out. Why do you want to take the oil jet out? If the jet is blocked you need to check the oil filter. If you are going to take the oil jet out make sure you don't drop it when you've unscrewed it, and when you are screwing it back in.
If you removed the vacuum pump when you put it back in make sure the camshaft lobes are vertical, if you try to put the pump back in with the lobe pointing out of the block you'll be up for some fun.
Does that help?
thanks nomad9
its not leaking externally
ive taken the jet out and its not blocked, but oil is not getting to the camshaft lobes, my last pump broke off the lug that makes contact with the camshaft, and i was told that the jet must be jetting out oil, ive ran the car and no oil is coming out, what else could stop it from working????
thanks heaps liam
The oil jets you are talking about are to feed spray oil to the underside of piston crown and gudgeon pins not the Vacuum pump, so I wouldn't **** with them, Regards Frank.
i was told to check it when i had the pump off, so i did but its not spraying
Hi Dragon200,
There is an oil jet where you are talking about, Tank is also right there are four jets on the underside of the pistons to lubricate the skirts, you can't get to these without removing the sump and a few other bits, so you can't **** with these you're safe.
The jet that lubricates the vacuum pump screws into the main oil gallery so if you haven't got oil coming out there you have some real issues.
If you remove the injectors or the glow plugs to reduce the effort to crank the engine over this will be enough to let you know you have oil flow. You didn't start the engine with the vacuum pump removed did you?
I'm not sure how you have got to where you have, engine rebuild or failure, not sure. If the oil isn't in the main gallery you could possibly have a busted or air locked oil pump. Add to that if you run the engine with no oil in the gallery the mains, big end and anything else relying on oil will stop working pretty soon.
If you take the jet out and crank the engine over you should have *****loads of oil coming out being an open end. This is where I would start and go from there, verify you have oil in the main gallery first, remove jet, crank engine, and don't drop the jet in the engine........
i think i will be taken into the mechanics, theres no oil coming out and the oil light is still on
Hi Dragon2000,
If you have no oil in the main gallery then the mechanic would be the next port of call. You've checked the oil level in the sump and other things like that haven't you? As mentioned I'm not sure how you got to where you are, have you had any oil leaks underneath evident? Has one of the flexes to the radiator split, have you lost all the oil?
If the pump is air locked, I had this once I over filled the sump, dropped the front axle to the floor without the wheels on, (well near enough anyway) and then jacked up the rear of the truck as high as practically possible and then cranked the engine over until I got oil circulating, I then dropped the rear of the car back to grade, put the wheels back on the front and drained the excess oil off before I started the engine.
Sounds crude but it worked, submerged the oil pump helped to prime the pump. Just an idea, if you have easy access to a mechanic this is definitely the way to go.
Good luck.
