Coolant leak on bottom radiator hose

    Hi All,

I'm almost at my wits end with a coolant link that I cant seem to stop.
It looks like the leak is from where the bottom radiator hose fits onto the water pump (3.9 V8i).

I have tried two (2) new bottom hoses, each time with new hose clamps and the damn thing still seems to leak. The hoses were the correct ones based on the VIN number of the vehicle.

One thing I have notices is that neither of the hoses seems to sit "square" on the water pump inlet. Could this be causing the issue (even though there is about an inch of hose over the metal and the clamp is square)?

Next I'll try a wider hist clamp with spring tension and/or resort to blue sealant...

Any other ideas or advice? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the seal drain hole on the pump for coolant drips? They will run along under the pump and seem to come from the hose. Also it's worth cleaning the pump inlet with a scraper or steel wool if the surface is white and powdery. I never use any sealant under a hose as it may lube the hose enough to blow off under pressure.

I take it weeping water pump seal drain hole = new water pump needed?
I'll check that over the weekend. Thanks.

OK. So I haven't really had time to check put the source of the violent leaked properly as I've been flat out with work. I've just been living with it and topping it up as required, but today I noticed something that makes me think I need to get onto it more urgently.

What I found today was, whilst having the front jacked up to put in the new suspension, a rather steady drip of coolent running down from the back of the engine. It looked like its coming somewhere from above the starter.

Any advice on what might be causing this and where I should be looking. Already planning to put in a new water pump up front to eliminate that as a problem, but the steady drip from the rear of the engine has me worried. Especially as the engine wasn't running.
