Exclamation Brake pedal goes to floor

    Hey forumers,

I've had this problem for quite a while now and am wondering why I've put up with it for so long. When I go to use the brakes the pedal is quite low (halfway down) but if I give it a couple of pumps they work well. But if I held my foot hard against the pedal it would very slowly but surely go to the floor.
I've had the brake master cylinder replaced, new brake pads and it has extended brake lines. Spent so much time bleeding them, is there a trick to bleeding them? Any other thoughts? Has anyone had something similar happen to them?
It can be quite a hair raising experience when I am caught out on a steep hill in the bush somewhere!

    Many thanks -Adam

Try pressure or vacuum bleeding the system.

On a Defender it's the only way I can get a pedal, I've never been able to get a pedal with a conventional bleed and I'm pretty well versed in a few different ways as I used to be paid to do it on race cars.

Although this won't be with your pedal to the floor when holding, loose wheel bearings also allow pad knock of or knock back and a low pedal.
Often encountered on dirt roads, corrugations or just big bumps where you'll need a safety tap of the pedal to bring it up before applying brakes.

Sounds like you have an ABS model, if it is THAT bad, another modulator may help.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

    go to the floor.
I would think that even the new master cylinder is faulty.
If you have a leak anywhere else it will be to the outside , eg a caliper seal, and will be pretty obvious.
    Does it use fluid?
I would fit a new master cylinder ,again if I had that problem..
BTW I use a pressure bleeder on my RRC 1992, or a Mity Vac.Both get my pedal rock hard. I think the Disco has a slightly different system but similar.

Well, turns our my front wheel bearings were totally knackered. Vacuam bleed the brakes and it now stops when I want it to! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated

That doesn't account for a slowly lowering pedal. if it was then only the master cylinder will do that.

Well we've come to the conclusion that the brakes were poorly bled, and my brake lines have been extended 250mm. I think I am up to replace them with braided line as we suspect they are bulging. Inspected the master cylinder and it all appears fine ( considering its only 3 months old) not a single leak anywhere in the brake lines and components. The pedal no longer goes to the floor but has but has a tiny 'spongy' feel right at about half way for the last say 10mm of travel. I can live with that for now. Will see if the braid rids it later on down the track.
