    Question cdl issues

    Hey guys,

I've got a 98 300tdi disco. My cdl wont shift out of high range unlocked. It will shift left and right. When it goes over to locked position the light comes on, but i'm not convinced it's locked at all. Also moving it forward and backward there is no resistance at all. i've looked down through the gear shift aperture and nothing looks damaged or broken. any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

The same thing happened to me. The CDL and Hi/Lo are two completely separate things. I traced it back down the linkages and found the issue inside the Transfer case. The selector shaft moves back and forth with no resistance. I have pulled the Transfer out as the car is no longer on the road but have not had time to pull it down to investigate. My theory is the "Set Screw" has come loose or sheered of at the selector fork. Either way the box has to come out. Pull the centre console and check the linkage first. If you remove it from the Transfer selector and still moves freely it's inside you box.
    Cheers, David.

    Thanks David,

I thought that might be the case. If anyone has any more info on such a problem please feel free to send it my way. I'll just be rocking in the corner, rave manual in hand
