    Air Con Not Working 300TDI

Firstly, I have searched for this issue, but can't find anything specific. Any duplication unintended.

D1 - 300TDI. The A/C no longer works, but was working well a few months back. Fans are not cutting in, blows warm and there is not the usual rev change on switching on.

Looking at some of the other threads for pointers - First looked at the 30A fuse, it was blown, replaced it still no joy. Then I located and changed the relay. At this point the fans started working but now the fuse is blown again. I don't know anything about A/C, so not sure where to start in checking stuff - or whether to take it to an A/C shop or auto elec. Any help would be appreciated, even pointers to any threads I missed with this issue.

    Thanks, Simon

Sounds like an electrical issue if you can blow fan fuses
    suggest
replace fuse, but disconnect the fans, that way you can check if it gets cold, thus gas not an issue. If it get cold, reconnect just 1 fan and see how the fuse goes, then the other. If fuse goes ... maybe last fan connected.
BUT if fuse goes without fans, check the clutch on the compressor.

So it worked fine with winter approaching and stoped working with summer approaching.

    Sounds about right.

Yep. Typical. Going to try and get to it this weekend and run through the process of elimination.

If it turns out to be a fan motor fault,Toyota use the same Denso motor.Plenty in the wreckers.

Finally got time to go through the process of elimination. Disconnecting the fans first took longer than expected as LR helpfully hide the plugs away in front of the radiator and above the condenser unit so you can't get to them easily - now relocated to an accessible position. So, fuse replaced, fans disconnected - fuse blows. Swapped over to fans connected, compressor clutch disconnected, new fuse - fuse OK, fans run fine (for the file - good to know if engine is running hot and you don't want to add the burden of the A/C).

So it appears to be the fan clutch and will get a replacement. Does anyone know if the clutch from a 3.9 of the same year (95) will fit the compressor of the TDI? The compressors are a bit different I think. I have a 3.9 parts wreck in the country in which the A/C was working before I took it off the road.

Thanks for all the advice. Simon

Having some trouble locating a replacement compressor clutch. Found one place in WA who will recondition mine, but was wondering if there are any off the shelf units out there. Anyone know a supplier? Thanks, Simon

So, a happy ending. Figured I may as well remove the clutch in anticipation of either getting it rebuilt or replaced. Got to the magnet and noticed the previously hidden wires looked a bit suspect - they were indeed. Whether from vibration or just age, they were worn through, one was broken and the end touching the body of the compressor. See photo - looks hideous. Cleaned it all up, soldered new wires on, double insulated with heat shrink and then taped. Connected it all back up and reinstalled everything, and it works. I've learned a lot about how this all works going through this process, thanks to everyone for their input and suggestions. Finally a fix which didn't cost anything other than persistence and time.

One thing I will follow up with is to replace the pulley bearing, sounded a bit dry and could feel a bit of a bump. Took the pulley down to the local bearing shop, they didn't have one but is available on order $35+GST - part number 30BGS from SKF if anyone is interested. Will need to peen the new one back in after pressing it home, but the pulley metal seems soft enough to do it OK.
