problem came back

I hope you have not recently changed the "t" piece that directs air into the inlet manifold at the front Left hand corner.
The "t" piece should have a very small hole leading to the inlet manifold not a normal brass "t" piece.
If you fit a normal "t" piece, you will get the symptoms you describe because the engine will be lean.

Have you checked your engine vacuum or done a valve leak down test or compression test?

PhilipA, are you talking about the T in the attached pic.
if you do, from what i have seen, it's a T like in regular garden T pipe.
i'll look for an original one.
the thing is that the T was before the problem appear, so i'm not sure.
lando- i'll check.

O.K i have checked the T.
the upper line of the T is with regular hole.
the leg of the T is with small Dia. hole.
is it O.K. ?

to check the compression there is no problem, but i don't know the vacuum hoses, except the brake system.

Did you set up the "Base idle"? .... The procedure is written in the Landrover repair manual

Also .... Clean the breather lines + the flame trap

last night i so at "rover north" the procedure for base idle.i'll do it at the weekend.
the car is 210K on it.
i have clean the flame trap (breather) but i have order a new one for the safe side.

Unsure of the "build year" of your D1 ....

Early model D1 had a metal can flame trap ... about the size of a egg cup ... screwed onto the L/H breather hole of the rocker cover ... Basically it is just a metal can with stainless steel mesh pad .... Just drop it in Kerosene (Degreaser) ... shake it dry and all is good.

The newer D1 system, was just a breather pipe mounted to the rocker cover that has a plastic worm restriction inside it .... Remove the restriction and clean it

No need to buy new items :)

You will need to check for a loose timing (cam) chain ... It is not the main cause of unsteady revs, but contributes to it.
