    D1 SUSPENSION RECOMMENDATIONS SOUGHT

    The Disco 300 tdi (98) has a few ks (220,000) up now and it has gained a bit of extra weight with a winch and a second battery and roof rack so it is time to change the springs and shock absorbers.

    I have read the many threads here about this and since I would probably use King Springs due to my buying price and availability (front KRFR-01 and rear either KRRR-02 or KRRR-04) I would appreciate your views which choice of the rear spring is appropriate and also what shocks you have had experience of with the raised suspension.

    A lot of recommendations are to use Bilsteins, however my experience of them is that while they may wear well and have a long life, they give a much harsher ride than the original rover fittings.

    Can the standard rover chocks be used with a raised suspension ?

    I don't find the Bilsteins at all harsh. With the extra weight you are carrying at least they wouldn't allow your vehicle to wallow around.Can't comment on the springs, don't know anything about the Kings. My D1 has TJM 2" lift springs (came with the car), Bilsteins and Airbags at the rear. Simon

    What do you do with the Disco or what do you want to set it up to do? There are a few ways to approach it depending on what you want.

    Our D1 has King springs & Bilsteins & rides like a dream. A mate with the same model with standard kit couldn't believe the difference in handling. Also the Billies were new in 2005 & have done the Sandover H/way, Gibb, Cape Leveque, Gunbarrel, Simmo, Walkers Xing, through Western NSW, Vic High Country & a lot more & they're still performing although I'm thinking of replacing them soon as part of my plan of keeping ahead of Murphy

    I run LRA red 180lb 17 inch(?) ( front), LRA purple 220 lb 17 inch (rear) for a 2 inch lift with Bilsteins and polyairbags in the rear. I have LR tank, dual batts, winch bar and winch and the setup is pretty good.

    Mate I recently put tough 2in dog coils in my 300tdi with bilstein rears and Koni adjustable fronts. This is my 3rd disco and this rides heaps better than any others I've had. First one had ironman and second had kings I found those two brands to be pretty rough and the powder coat flaked off iron mans.

    Same here, Kings Springs and Bilstiens all round, along with wider 8 inch wheels with -30 offset. Handles pretty good for a 4x4.

    Have you looked at the SuspensionStuff flex coils. Gives the best of both worlds. Soft when unloaded and firm when loaded up. Also gives extra travel when offroad.

    LRA springs and Billies. They cost more for a reason. LRA springs are fantastic.
